African Safari across the Great Rift Valley lakes

Day 1: Nairobi – Tassia Lodge

You will be met at the airport and will depart for Lekkuruki conservation area. Arrival and installation at the lodge. After lunch, african safari game drive in this private sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Tassia Lodge.

Day 2: Tassia Lodge

Early morning wildlife safari walk escorted by Masai guides. Lunch and african safari game drive in the conservation area. Dinner and overnight at Tassia Lodge.

Tassia is situated on the Lekurruki Community Conservation Group Ranch between the Laikipia Plateau and the Northern Frontier District. The dramatic setting of the lodge, perched on the edge of the Mokogodo escarpment, gives a mesmerizing view of the Northern Frontier District and the sacred Lolokwe Mountain.

The lodge’s distinctive architecture is of Maasai origin and is inspired by the surrounding area. The six individual rooms are all en-suite, with their own unrivalled view. The open plan sitting and dining area offers a spectacular vista over the natural rock swimming pool and on to the 60,000 acre Lekurruki conservation area.

Day 3: Tassia Lodge – Samburu/Shaba game reserve

Early morning breakfast and depart for the Samburu/Shaba reserve. Wildlife safari game drive en route to the lodge.

Samburu game reserve has one of the most majestic landscapes of Kenya and houses not only a wide variety of birds, gazelles, elephants, felines…, but also specific species to this area such as the Grevy Zebra, reticulated giraffe, Oryx, Somali ostrich and gerenuk. Dinner and overnight at the Shaba Sarova Lodge.

Day 4: Samburu/Shaba Game reserve

Morning and afternoon, african safari game drives in the reserve. Dinner and overnight at the Shaba Sarova Lodge.

Day 5: Samburu/Shaba game reserve – Lake Baringo

Across Samburu and Pokot country, majestic landscapes inhabited by tribes living traditionally. Picnic en route and arrive mid-afternoon. Transfer by boat to Samatian Island Camp.

The rest of the afternoon at leisure to take advantage of the views offered by this Lake with its chocolate-colored waters crossed by Njemps fishermen in their “ambach”… boats. Dinner and overnight at Samatian Island Camp.

Day 6: Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria – Lake Nakuru -Lake Elmentaita

Morning boat ride to observe the many birds that inhabit this lake but also crocodiles and hippos. Breakfast and depart for Lake Bogoria to see the great Pink flamingo colony that populates this beautiful lake and visit the hot springs on the western shores of the Lake.

After crossing sisal plantations, we join Lake Nakuru, picnic lunch and wildlife safari around the Lake. At certain times this park is home to a large colony of pink flamingos but it also became, with the reinsertion of rhinoceroses from other areas of the country and from South Africa, the place where you will be most likely to see them.

Afternoon route to the camp located in the Congreve conservation area. Dinner and overnight at Mbweha Camp.

Day 7: Lake Elmentaita – Masai Mara

African safari game walk or game drive in the conservation area of Congreve. Breakfast and departure from the Great Rift Valley after breakfast for the Masai Mara game reserve.

The Masai Mara national reserve is renowned for the diversity of its fauna, its numerous lion prides and especially for the great zebra, topi and wildebeest migration from the south of the Serengeti in Tanzania to the north of the Masai Mara game reserve, in search of new grazing.

Back to camp in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Siana Springs Camp.

Siana Springs, situated in the conservation area of Siana, on the periphery of Masai Mara, offers its guests a very large comfort under canvas. Its location makes the camp a perfect base to explore the reserve and conservation area but also experience a bush walk escorted by Masai warriors and a nocturnal wildlife safari game drive.

Day 8: Masai Mara

African safari game drive on the way to Mara Serena Lodge, across the game reserve from east to west. Arrival in time for lunch. Meals and overnight at Mara Serena Lodge.

Mara Serena Lodge, overlooking the Mara River and the surrounding plains, bordered in the West by the Siria escarpment is located southwest of the Masai Mara Game Reserve and is a perfect base to explore this side of the reserve, especially during the wildebeest migration.

Day 9: Masai Mara

Wildlife safari game drives morning and afternoon in the Masai Mara national reserve. Meals and overnight at Mara Serena Lodge.

Day 10: Masai Mara – Nairobi

Breakfast and return to Nairobi for lunch. Afternoon at leisure in the city to do your last purchases, visit museums and local markets. Farewell dinner and transfer to the airport for your return flight.

Options

  • From Nairobi to Tassia, journey in a small plane rather than by road. giving you a bird’s view of the country. Same option on the last day, returning from Masai Mara.

 

  • Larsen Camp, more intimate and luxury than the Shaba Lodge.

  • A hot air balloon safari at sunrise over the Masai Mara Game Reserve followed by a champagne-style breakfast. A must during the migration.

  • A cosy « Out of Africa » style private camp (maximum 12 persons) instead of Mara Serena Lodge. Located by the Mara River, it puts you right in the heart of the wildebeest migration.
